Stunted Quercus chrysolepis (canyon live oak) acorn, cut open showing gall inducer wasp larva. Upper left image shows whole acorn before dissection. Upper right image shows the partially dissected acorn with the wasp larval cell slightly opened. The bottom image shows the wasp larval cell (and acorn embryo) completely opened up. Synonym: Callirhytis chrysobalani.
