Callirhytis eldoradensis
2222_2708 Photo added 2015-12-06

Callirhytis eldoradensis (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae)
Oakland, Alameda County, California
November 1, 2015

This Quercus agrifolia acorn is stunted by gall wasps. The wasps have already developed and left. Two of their exit holes are visible here in the cap. The larval chambers of the wasps are under the cap but above the embryo of the acorn.
