Feron discularis
(Hymenoptera: Cynipidae)
Gall collected October 17, 2012, and cut open May 31, 2014. A dead adult cynipid wasp was inside. Photo shows the larval chamber in the middle of the gall. Identification was done by comparing this gall with specimens at the California Academy of Sciences, and by reading Lewis Weld's original 1926 description of this gall. Weld's type specimens are from Sequoia National Park. This gall measures about 5mm in diameter. Host is Quercus garryana. |
