There is a second species of wasp gall on these leaves, the 'Pink Bow Tie Gall Wasp' (per Ron Russo's Field Guide to Plant Galls of California and other Western States). The Pink Bow Tie Gall Wasp has not yet been scientifically described. These galls are on Quercus berberidifolia (scrub oak).
