2222_1365 Photo added 2007-08-19

Amphibolips confluenta (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae)
Spongy Oak Apple
Ithaca, Tompkins County, New York
July 15, 2007

Identified with the help of Kathy Schick and Cynipid Galls of the Eastern United States by Lewis H. Weld (1959). Found underneath Quercus rubra (red oak). In this photo the gall has been cut open to show the fibers radiating from the central chamber that houses the wasp larva.
