Callirhytis eldoradensis
2222_2706 Photo added 2015-12-06

Callirhytis eldoradensis (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae)
Oakland, Alameda County, California
November 1, 2015

This Quercus agrifolia acorn is stunted by gall wasps. The wasps have already developed and left; some of their exit holes are visible here, under where the cap was. The larval chambers of the wasps are under the cap but above the embryo of the acorn.
